During the school year, almost 21 million children depend on free or reduced-price school meals, but during the summer, only 2.3 million children are enrolled in summer meal programs. This means about 18 million children are at an increased risk of hunger during the summer when school is out.

To help ensure that all children have access to nutritious meals year round, the ConAgra Foods Foundation pledged $5 million to Feeding America to establish Hunger-Free Summer. This program will raise awareness about child hunger and offer grants to local food banks across the country to help provide more meals to more children during these critical months.
